Interactive Architectural Projection by Nokia

Here's a neat video of architectural projection mapping done for Nokia by Seeper Interactive Arts & Technology. These "Ovi" maps as they call them follow people passing by and ultimately direct them to the nearby store (I believe). This one in particular is at Covent Garden in London, England.

PICTURE: Digital Signage at Canadian Metro Supermarkets

Dmitry over at DailyDOOH.com caught this MediaTile and IBM AnyPlace-powered self-service kiosk module at a Metro grocery store in the Toronto area.

MUHC Rolls Out Touch Screen Kiosks

MUHC Rolls Out Touch Screen Kiosks that Enable Patients to Locate Nearby Clinics and Pharmacies on an Interactive Map

Montreal, April 16, 2010 – From this week on, patients visiting emergency rooms at the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) will have access to a new resource for locating follow-up care and services. Touch-screen activated kiosks have been installed at the Montreal General and Royal Victoria hospitals, which provide information on nearby pharmacies and clinics, as well as contact information, hours of operation and interactive maps with public transport routes.

The idea and initiative for this project came from MUHC Nursing Resource Manager Barbara Cooke. "In the past, patients would frequently ask nurses and admitting staff for information on the nearest pharmacy or the closest clinic to their home for follow-up care," said Ms. Cooke, who is also a former Emergency Room nurse at the MUHC. "It was impossible for our team to know about every resource in Montreal. The new interactive kiosks allow patients to find this important information in a matter of seconds simply by typing in their postal code, leaving emergency room staff to focus their efforts on providing excellent patient care."

Ms. Cooke submitted her idea for the information kiosks as part of a novel contest that encourages MUHC staff to submit innovative ideas that could improve all aspects of hospital life, from patient care to patient parking. Some of the ideas that are submitted receive grants that take them into development. Ms. Cooke worked with local firm Integration New Media, Inc. (INM), specialists in creating rich user experiences for web, DVD, kiosk and custom applications, to help turn her vision into a reality.

The kiosks are housed in a sturdy casing designed to withstand a high volume of users and were developed to run 24 hours a day, seven days a week without requiring regular maintenance – the perfect solution for a busy emergency room. INM works with the hospital to update the content on the kiosks every six months to ensure that the listings are up-to-date.

Habs on Astral's Digital Network

Montrealers aren't minding the gloomy weather after their beloved Montreal Canadiens beat the number one team in the East, Washington Capitals, with an overtime score of 3-2 in the opening game of their first round playoff series.

Local radio station NRJ 94.3 decided to inspire fans by dedicating an ad on Astral Outdoor's Digital network to the hockey team's familiar chant, Go Habs Go!

The pic above was taken on eastbound highway 20 near the town of Lachine.

The Habs vs. Caps series continues this Saturday at 7pm in Washington.

BTW, the Habs kept Alexander Ovechkin off the scoresheet in Game One. He didn't even register a shot on goal. Thursday was the first time in his career that Ovechkin had no shots and no points in a game.

OPA! Souvlaki gets Digital Menu Boards

Dmitry, over at the DailyDOOH, reported on a good looking digital menu board installation in a Greek restaurant franchise chain in Canada called OPA! Souvlaki.

With the help of E Display, a digital signage provider in Calgary, Alberta, Opa! will be setting up full digital menu boards across all of its 65-locations. Each location will get a 3-screen digital signage solution to replace its light boxes powered by a hybrid of Samsung’s MagicInfo Pro and custom tools designed by E Display.

Two screens display the menu options while the third screen plays a feature / promotional loop. Layout and content is created by E Display.

Quebec sign Show 2010

The 20th edition of the Quebec sign industry's trade show, the Quebec Sign Show, will be taking place May 28th & 29th in Boucherville, QC. The show, run by the Association Québecoise de l'industrie de l'enseigne (AQIE), will feature close to 70 booths, new product unveilings, demos of the latest equipment, and many representatives and manufacturers on site.

As is the tradition with the show, the AQIE will be honouring an individual who has marked the sign industry by their actions over the years. The show will also be preceded by the AQIE's annual golf tournament on Thursday, May 27th (location yet to be determined).

Pixels Invade NYC

Made you look. I bet you thought this was going to be about the proliferation of digital signage in the five Burroughs, right? Well its Thursday, and close enough to Friday to take a break and share something a little more fun. Pixels is a short film by Patrick Jean, a French producer working at One more production, depicting a War of the Worlds-esque invasion by 8-bit video game characters. From Pac-man and Space Invaders to Donkey Kong and Frogger, all your favourites are there. Even Tetris blocks make an appearance in all their pixelated greatness. Watch the video below:

Zoom Media & Marketing Acquires Sports Display

NEW YORK, NY  – Zoom Media & Marketing, the worlds largest and fastest growing digital fitness media company and one of the largest digital place-based companies in the world, today announced the acquisition of the assets of Sports Display, Inc (SDI), a California-based company that places local advertising in a network of thousands of venues across the United States and Canada.   

“The acquisition of Sports Display immediately provides Zoom with one of the top local sales organizations in the advertising industry“, said Dennis Roche, President of Zoom Media & Marketing.     “This local sales organization, combined with Zoom’s existing digital infrastructure of over 2,000 digital and 9,000 static venues across the US and Canada, will allow us to bring local advertising partners and revenue to our growing venue footprint.”  

Sports Display’s local field force, consisting of over 100 sales executives, currently sells advertising into a network of traditional, static displays in over 3,000 venues across over 100 DMAs.   Over the past year, SDI built out over 150 digital venues as they began converting from more traditional, static formats to digital displays.  This acquisition supercharges that process by instantly giving SDI’s sales organization access to Zoom’s 2,000 digital venues across North America.

Zoom and Sports Display conducted several field tests last summer, with SDI reps selling into existing Zoom inventory as separate companies.   That test formed the basis for discussions that resulted in today’s transaction.
